After such an incredible time at Nossob, it was in one way sad to leave but also exciting to embark on the next chapters, Mata Mata and lastly Rooiputs. Last summer Mata Mata was incredible, so the anticipation was high. We where nervous about the roads, as there was so much flooding in Nossob and long dune road was a little washed away, especially on the dunes but we fortunately did not have any trouble. On route we saw some lions near Dikbaardskolk picnic, eagles on long dune road and the Auob road up to Mata Mata.
Mata Mata was lovely, peaceful with great sightings. We met such lovely campers who recognised us from our previous videos! We only had 2 nights there which really means one decent day. I hoped to see the cubs we had seen online, so followed all the signs and clues. Unfortunately, sightings are helped by research and tracking, but otherwise down to luck and chance. We did see a sleepy male under a tree and hung around for breakfast in the car, but when it was time to leave, we realise our car battery was dead :( .I began to laugh! It was crazy, but also not too much of a stress as we had jumper cables and not on a quiet road, the only possibility of trouble was the large male lion on our right. Fortunately he was asleep and not interested in us, as well as being about 100m away.
Our last night was uneventful , more rain but at least not another storm. We started packing for the last leg of our trip - Rooiputs- for which we were nervous being our first time.
The last morning made sure everything was fully charged and ready. We left Mata Mata and near Dalkieth we encountered the mom and cubs! Unfortunately, the cubs where hidden in the bushes, as usual, but we did get a glimpse, just not on camera. Mom and Dad where easy to spot and after a little while we continued to Rooiputs.
So this was our first time at Rooiputs. This was the most incredible time we have had in the bush at Kgalagadi. Is was spectacular. It don feel words do it justice, so leave you with the videos we made from out time. From the male lion brothers, to the pride of cubs playing, snakes, scorpions and all sorts. It was unreal.
It is worth pointing out that we discovered at home that the trip did cause one of our trailer shocks to break off. Fortunately this was not a danger at the time and we picked it up and had it fixed. In all, it was a magical trip, one that we will never forget!
